Napa on Ice Opens in Time for the Holidays!

Ice Skating in NapaJust in time for the holidays, Napa’s first outdoor ice skating rink is scheduled to open downtown!  Construction crews are working hard to prepare for the opening of Napa’s first outdoor ice skating rink which will open to the public on Saturday, November 19th. The ice skating rink is located downtown at the corner of Coombs Street and Second Street.

The city-owned rink will be open daily from November 19th through January 16th.  Tickets have been on sale at select downtown offices since October, and will now be available online at www.NapaOnIce.com and at the gate for $12.  Ice skating instructors will also be available on-site for hire.  Members of the community donated about $100,000 and a large quantity of building materials to make the dream a reality.

Petaluma Gears Up for Veteran’s Day

Petaluma hosts one of the largest Veteran’s Day parades in the state of California!  Last year there were 180 groups participating in the parade and a crowd of 25,000 spectators came out to show support and join in the festivities.  This year’s Veteran’s Day parade is sure to break records with over 300 group entries received so far!

A little wet weather may also appear during this year’s parade event, but that certainly hasn’t dampened the spirits of the participants.  This year’s Parade Grand Marshall General Richard Hearney, a retired Marine Corps officer, notes that he will be in attendance rain or shine.  “I’d hate to have rain blamed on a Marine,” Hearney says.

This year’s event will be held on the Veteran’s Day Holiday, Friday, November 11th at 1 pm in downtown Petaluma.  Activities include an airshow with vintage planes flying over Historic Downtown, arts and crafts, music, and more.  The parade will start and end at Walnut Park at D Street.

Gilroy Schools are Reaching New Heights!

Cimarron Family - New Gilroy HomesCimarron schools are going for the gold with continuous test score improvements, high community ratings, and plenty of positive parent feedback this year!  Both Luigi Aprea Elementary School and Christopher High School are among the few California schools to receive a 9 out of 10 rating from Greatschoools.org.

Luigi Aprea Elementary Schools Academic Performance Index (API) has risen over 44 points since last year and received an 8 out of 10 in the API Statewide Rank for 2010.  Christopher High School has also seen significant improvement, with an API score that has increased 14 points since last year and an API Statewide Rank of 7 out of 10.
