WHEN THE GOING GETS TOUGH, THE HOME BUILDING COMMUNITY STILL GIVES BACK

(Pleasant Hill, CA) --- Daily headlines continue to focus on the national housing crisis that grips our country. The homebuilding industry has not faced such difficult challenges for decades. However, despite these tough times, on Sunday, May 18 at 8:00 P.M., ABC's "Extreme Makeover: Home Edition" will highlight the heart and soul of these homebuilders as they continue to give back to those in need. A coalition of builders from across the country, who have actively participated in past episodes of ABC's "Extreme Makeover: Home Edition", have joined together in New Orleans to help the popular TV series with its most daunting challenge yet. One of those builders, Pleasant Hill-based DeNova Homes, extended their community reach outside of Northern California by traveling to Louisiana to be a part of this "Extreme Build."

Nearly three years ago, Hurricane Katrina hit the Southern Coast of the United States with a devastating effect. It was reported that more than an estimated $150 billion worth of damages occurred, and while Americans banded together during this time of crisis and raised more than $4 billion for the relief effort, Hurricane Katrina is still taking a toll on families on the road to recovery. Resources and manpower are scarce and it will take the efforts of the entire country continue to come together to make a difference.

Que the knock on the door of a very deserving family and enter the "Extreme Makeover: Home Edition" team and the coalition of builders that are reuniting to make a necessary difference in a region that continues to need its country's help. These are the important steps of maintaining awareness for the victims of Hurricane Katrina

Over the past twenty years, DeNova Homes has earned a reputation as one of the most respected homebuilders in Northern California. Their approach has been simple: address each community individually, incorporate the unique characteristics of the surrounding area and commit to build only the very best. Yet the philosophy of the Pleasant Hill based builder extends further than simply quality craftsmanship and great neighborhoods. DeNova Homes makes commitments to the people of the community, and strives to build a better community.

This philosophy has best been reflected through DeNova's continued support and involvement with organizations such as HomeAid Northern California and the American Cancer Societies Relay for Life campaign.

HomeAid Northern California was established in 1999 as the charitable arm of the Home Builder's Association of Northern California and since that time the organization has provided hundreds of beds and services to families and individuals in need, with the construction of facilities valued at over $10 million. Shelters currently in development include an additional 225 beds at facilities valued at over $15 million in Fairfield, Hayward and Marin. DeNova Homes is one of the builder captains for the Bridge to Life Center in Fairfield, a partnership between HomeAid Northern California and Mission Solano.

Each year DeNova is also an active participant in the American Cancer Societies Relay for Life campaign, where employees, along side family and friends, dust off their walking shoes and relay walk for twenty-four hours to raise money for cancer research. Last year, the company's team raised over $28,000; this year they have increased their goal to $50,000!

However, DeNova's biggest challenge came in the form of the hit ABC show, "Extreme Makeover: Home Edition". It was two years ago that DeNova Homes embarked on this mission that was unlike any other it had ever undertaken. Instead of a timeline counted in months, this home was started and completed within five days and nine hours. And at the end, the well deserving Sears family of Martinez had a new house to call home. "We were honored to be asked by ABC's "Extreme Makeover: Home Edition" team to join them in this special New Orleans build", said Dave Sanson, President of DeNova Homes. "There is nothing better than knowing that your efforts have helped to make someone's day a little brighter", added Lori Sanson, Executive Vice President.
